What dog grooming costs in India: the price by channel, city and coat, and what a quote leaves out

Six published Indian price lists, read on one day, with the arithmetic nobody prints: what the package saves against buying the same items separately, why de-matting is charged on top, and why the city you live in moves the price less than your dog's size does.

Quick answer

Dog grooming cost India-wide ran from ₹600 to ₹3,000 a session on six operators' own itemised price lists read on 21 October 2026, set mainly by your dog's size, coat and the package rather than by your city. A veterinary clinic chain's bath starts at ₹1,099 and a national doorstep service's at ₹1,399. De-matting is charged on top, at ₹749 on one menu. Ask what the quote includes before you book.

What dog grooming costs in India, by channel

Dog grooming in India costs ₹600 to ₹3,000 a session on the six itemised price lists read for this page on 21 October 2026, and the channels sit closer together than their marketing suggests, because a doorstep service, a city salon and a veterinary clinic all price a bath between ₹600 and ₹1,399.

Every figure below comes from the operator's own published page, opened and read on 21 October 2026. None of it is an average, a survey or a converted dollar figure. Bonbeno has not used any of these services, does not rank them and recommends none of them; a published grooming price is cited here as a fact about a price list, nothing more.

Read the table as a range of real menus rather than a national rate. The two at-home operators are 100 percent apart on the same job: Patmypets lists Full Grooming in Delhi NCR at ₹1,000 and Sploot lists Bath and Haircut in the same city at ₹1,999 Sploot, Dog and Pet Grooming at Home…. Neither page explains the gap, and neither publishes what its groomers are paid.

The floor price on a clinic page is one item, not a groom

A headline that reads "grooming from ₹299" is almost always the cheapest single item on a long menu. Our guide to the monthly cost of a dog in India found the same veterinary chain advertising grooming from ₹299 on its Mumbai clinic page and from ₹1,099 on its Delhi one, which looked inexplicable until you see an itemised list. Sploot's own menu prices ear cleaning at ₹99, eye cleaning at ₹99, teeth cleaning at ₹99 and nail cutting at ₹149. A three-digit "from" price is that kind of line item, not a bath.

The one question that fixes this

Ask for the price of the exact package, for your dog's size, including taxes, before you book. Of the six Indian price lists read on 21 October 2026, only PawPup Cafe's states that its figures include all taxes. The other five are silent on tax, which means the number on the page may not be the number you pay.

Prices also move. Vetic's national blog gives the pre-discount haircut at ₹1,699 while its Delhi grooming page gives ₹1,599, both read on 21 October 2026 Vetic, Pet Grooming in Delhi. Two pages of one chain, a hundred rupees apart on the same service, on the same day. Treat any figure on this page as the price that page showed on that date.

Why the city matters less than every price guide says

The city you live in moves an Indian grooming price far less than the ranking pages claim, and the clearest evidence is that one national at-home operator charges exactly the same in Delhi as in Indore.

Sploot's Delhi page and its Indore page carry identical tables on 21 October 2026: Bath and Clean ₹1,399, Bath and Haircut ₹1,999, Full Grooming and Spa ₹2,499, with the same fourteen add-ons at the same prices down to the ₹99 mouth spray Sploot, Dog and Pet Grooming at Home…. Indore is not a metro. Delhi is. The grooming price does not know the difference.

The direction is sometimes reversed outright. A full groom with a haircut on an extra-large dog costs ₹3,000 at a Lucknow salon, three times the ₹1,000 that a Delhi NCR at-home service lists for Full Grooming. A pet parent in Lucknow reading that metros are dearer would conclude they are getting a bargain, and would be wrong.

Furrvana, Gurugram price guideSalons in premium areas may charge higher rates than remote locationsA Lucknow salon's extra-large full groom at ₹3,000 beats most Gurugram prices it lists

Two things do travel with the city, and neither is the headline price. The first is the number of operators competing, which is why a metro reader can find a ₹700 bath and a ₹1,399 one on the same afternoon while a smaller city may offer one salon. The second is travel: Vetic's own guidance says transport fees for at-home services add ₹150 to ₹400 a visit in metro areas, a charge none of the at-home menus read for this page itemised.

So compare menus, not cities. The useful comparison for a reader in Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru or Hyderabad is between the three or four operators who will actually come to their door, priced for their own dog, in the same week.

What a quoted price actually includes

A quoted grooming package in India usually includes nine things, and the complaint behind most disputed bills is that the pet parent and the groomer were counting a different nine.

Across the six lists read on 21 October 2026, the same items recur under different names. Sploot's Bath and Clean Package covers a bath and blow dry, ear cleaning, eye and teeth cleaning and nail clipping. Patmypets' ₹700 Fresh Pack covers bathing, conditioning, blow drying, nail clipping, ear cleaning, eye cleaning, paw massage, combing, brushing, powder, perfume and a mouth spray, with no haircut. Vetic's core list adds a sanitary trim and anal gland cleaning.

The nine things a groom is made of

  1. Bath, with a shampoo chosen for the coat. Priced alone at ₹999 on one national menu.
  2. Blow dry, which on a double coat is the longest single job in the session and is bundled with the bath on every list read.
  3. Brush out, before and after the bath. Never itemised separately on any Indian list read for this page.
  4. Nail trimming, ₹149 on one menu and ₹200 on another PawPup Cafe, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.
  5. Ear cleaning, ₹99 to ₹400 depending on the list Furrvana, What Does Pet Grooming Cost….
  6. Sanitary trim, the hygiene clip around the rear. ₹299 as a standalone hygiene trim on one menu.
  7. Full haircut, the single largest price step. ₹1,200 as a standalone full body trim.
  8. De-shedding, undercoat removal. A ₹199 to ₹299 add-on in Gurugram, ₹400 as Shed Relief in Lucknow.
  9. De-matting, the item that most often turns a quote into a different bill. Covered in its own section below.

Now the arithmetic no Indian page prints. Sploot's Bath and Clean Package bundles five items that are each separately priced on the same page: bath and blow dry ₹999, ear cleaning ₹99, eye cleaning ₹99, teeth cleaning ₹99 and nail cutting ₹149. Bought separately that is ₹1,445, against ₹1,399 for the package. The bundle saves ₹46, which is 3 percent.

The haircut package tells a different story. Bath and blow dry ₹999, full body trim ₹1,200, nail cutting ₹149, ear cleaning ₹99 and eye cleaning ₹99 come to ₹2,546 separately, against ₹1,999 for the Bath and Haircut Package, a saving of ₹547 or 21 percent.

What that arithmetic means for your booking

Bundling pays at the top of the menu and barely pays at the bottom. If your short-coated dog genuinely needs a wash, the ₹999 bath and blow dry is the right purchase and the ₹1,399 package charges you ₹400 for four extras. If your dog needs a haircut, take the package, because the same items bought one by one cost ₹547 more.

One practical consequence for an Indian pariah dog or any other short, single-coated dog: most of what a full grooming package sells is work that coat does not need. Our guide to dog grooming at home in India sets out which jobs a smooth coat actually requires and in what order.

De-matting is the line that breaks the quote

De-matting is charged on top of the package on most Indian menus, by severity or by time rather than at a fixed rate, and on one national list it costs more than half the price of the entire bath package.

Sploot prices de-matting at ₹749 as a single add-on in both Delhi and Indore Sploot, Dog and Pet Grooming at Home…. That is 54 percent of its ₹1,399 Bath and Clean Package and five times its ₹149 nail cutting. A Lucknow salon splits the same work into two tiers, Knot Removal at ₹200 and Knot Buster at ₹500, which is a plain admission that the job scales with how bad the coat is. A Gurugram salon lists a de-matting surcharge among the hidden costs it says pet parents should watch for, without naming a figure.

Then one chain bundles it. Vetic's Haircut Only package at ₹1,699 lists dematting among its inclusions, alongside the trim, ear and paw clean, sanitary hygiene and nail clip. So on the same day, in the same country, de-matting is a ₹749 extra at one operator and included at another. Publish that as a disagreement rather than an average, because it decides whether a quote for a badly matted dog is honest.

How four Indian operators charge for matted hair, read 21 October 2026 Sploot, Dog and Pet Grooming at Home…
OperatorHow it is chargedPrice
Sploot (Delhi, Indore)Single add-on, one flat rate₹749
PawPup Cafe (Lucknow)Two severity tiers₹200 Knot Removal, ₹500 Knot Buster
Vetic (clinic chain)Included inside the Haircut Only packageNo separate charge stated
Furrvana (Gurugram)Named as a surcharge for severely tangled coatsFigure not published

The mechanism is time. A mat has to be worked loose strand by strand or clipped away under the skin, and both are slow. A Gurugram salon puts coat condition among the five factors that set its price, and says a neglected coat that has not been groomed in months costs more to restore. A Lucknow salon says the same in its own words, that mats have to be worked loose slowly or clipped away, which takes extra time.

Get the de-matting decision made before the dog is wet

Ask the groomer to look at the coat, quote the de-matting separately and tell you whether the mats can be combed out or have to be clipped, before anything starts. A severely matted coat is clipped off, not brushed out, and that is a different dog at the end of the session. The technique and the reason are on our guide to dog grooming at home in India.

The cheapest de-matting in India is the brush you already own. Every Indian operator read for this page makes the same point unprompted, because a matted dog is their least profitable hour too.

Why size and coat drive the price more than the city does

Size and coat move an Indian grooming bill by 40 to 70 percent on a single salon's own price list, which is a larger swing than any gap this page found between cities.

A Lucknow salon publishes five size bands for every package, which makes the effect measurable. On its Express Bathing the smallest adult band costs ₹700 and the largest ₹1,000, a rise of 43 percent. On its Signature Spa the same two bands are ₹1,100 and ₹1,600, a rise of 45 percent. On its Luxe full groom, the only package with a haircut, they are ₹1,800 and ₹3,000, a rise of 67 percent.

One Lucknow salon's size ladder, read 21 October 2026, taxes included PawPup Cafe, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow
PackagePuppySmolMediumLargeX-LargeSmol to X-Large
Express Bathing₹600₹700₹800₹900₹1,000up 43 percent
Signature Spa₹700₹1,100₹1,200₹1,400₹1,600up 45 percent
Mini Groom₹900₹1,400₹1,600₹1,800₹2,000up 43 percent
Luxe full groom₹1,200₹1,800₹2,000₹2,400₹3,000up 67 percent

The pattern in that last column is the whole point. Washing a big dog costs more because of shampoo and drying time, and that premium is flat at about 43 percent across the bathing packages. Cutting a big dog costs disproportionately more, because scissor and clipper work scales with surface area and with how still the dog stays. A Gurugram salon's size bands run the same way, from ₹800 to ₹1,500 for a small breed up to ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 for a giant one.

The coat decides the drying time, and the drying time is the bill

A double-coated dog in Indian humidity is a different job from a smooth-coated one of the same weight, because the undercoat holds water. Every Indian operator read for this page bundles the blow dry into the bath rather than pricing it, which means the cost of drying a Golden Retriever or a Siberian Husky is hidden inside a package built around an average dog. That is why the same ₹1,399 flat price buys very different value depending on your dog.

It is also why a monsoon booking is worth planning. A coat that goes home damp is the start of a skin problem rather than the end of a groom, and the risk rises in a humid month. Our guides to monsoon care for dogs in India and to dog ear infection cover what wet coats and wet ears do in the rains.

Two operators price by size and two do not. Patmypets lists one Full Grooming price of ₹1,000 for Delhi NCR with no size bands at all, and Sploot lists ₹1,999 for Bath and Haircut with none either. A flat price is good news for a Great Dane and a poor deal for a Pug, so ask a flat-rate operator what happens when they see your dog.

At-home grooming against the salon, costed honestly

Grooming at home displaces the bath, the brush out and the nails, which is most of what a cheap package contains, and the kit to do it costs about the price of one professional session.

A three-item starter kit from one Indian seller cost ₹1,159 on 21 October 2026: a slicker brush at ₹339 against an MRP of ₹399, a nail clipper at ₹527 against ₹599, and a 200 ml oatmeal dog shampoo at ₹293 against ₹298 Supertails, Wahl Nail Clipper for Dogs… Supertails, Virbac Episoothe Oatmeal…. All three prices were unchanged from the same seller's pages five weeks earlier, which is worth knowing: grooming tools are not a fast-moving price.

Set that ₹1,159 against the published menu and the payback is short.

  1. Nails. A ₹527 clipper costs the same as four nail trims at ₹149 or three at ₹200 PawPup Cafe, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. Dogs need nails trimmed roughly monthly, so the clipper pays for itself inside a quarter.
  2. Bath. A ₹293 bottle of shampoo costs less than a third of one ₹999 bath and blow dry, and the bottle lasts many washes.
  3. Brush. A ₹339 slicker brush costs less than a ₹500 Knot Buster, and used weekly it is the thing that stops you ever needing one.
  4. Ears and eyes. A ₹99 line item each at a salon, and a wipe at home the rest of the time.

Four jobs the kit does not displace, and pretending otherwise is how dogs get hurt. A breed haircut needs clippers, guide combs and a trained hand. Hand-stripping a wire coat is a separate skill. A severely matted coat is clipped by a professional, sometimes under veterinary sedation. And drying a dense double coat to the skin needs a proper dryer, which costs far more than this kit. The method for everything else is on our guide to dog grooming at home in India; this page is only about the money.

The mixed pattern most Indian dogs are best served by

For a long or curly coat, a professional haircut every six to eight weeks and everything else at home is the arrangement the arithmetic supports: you buy the ₹1,999 package only when the coat genuinely needs cutting, and you keep the ₹99 and ₹149 line items in your own hands. For a short single coat, the honest answer is that a full grooming package is mostly things your dog does not need, and the salon visit worth paying for is an occasional bath in a month when the dog is filthy.

What the salon buys that the kit cannot

A good groomer's hands go over every centimetre of your dog in good light, roughly every six weeks, which is more systematic than most owners manage. Lumps, ticks, sore ears and skin changes get found that way. That is a real part of the value and it is the reason a yearly professional session is worth keeping even for a dog you groom at home.

What is not grooming, and should not be sold inside it

Three things sold inside Indian grooming packages are not grooming: shaving a double coat, routine anal gland expression, and anything sedative, and the last of those is a veterinary act under Indian law.

Start with the summer shave, because it is the one most often requested by the owner rather than pushed by the salon. The veterinary evidence against shaving a double coat for heat, and the measured reasons, are set out on our guide to dog grooming at home in India, which holds that argument. The point here is commercial: a shave-down is sold as a seasonal service at the same price as a trim, and for a double-coated dog you are paying for a worse outcome. Heat is managed with the walk window, not the clippers, which our guide to heat safety for dogs in India covers.

Anal gland expression, bundled as routine

Anal gland expression appears inside Indian grooming packages as a standard step. Vetic's Delhi grooming page lists anal gland cleaning among the additional care included in a session, and its national guide states that professional groomers safely express anal glands as part of a standard grooming session and lists the step before the bath in its eleven-step workflow.

That sits against the position on our live technique page, which collects VCA, the American Kennel Club and Humane World for Animals saying that expression treats a problem rather than forming part of routine care. We publish both rather than choosing. For a buyer the practical reading is narrow and safe: a dog with no history of scooting, licking at the tail base or a swelling beside the anus has not been shown to need the step, you can ask for it to be left out, and if your dog does have those signs the right appointment is a veterinary one. What that appointment costs is on our guide to what a vet visit costs in India.

Sedation is a veterinary act, and the law is explicit

No Indian price list read for this page offers sedation, and none should. Section 30 of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 provides that no person other than a registered veterinary practitioner shall practise veterinary medicine in any State, and section 2 defines veterinary medicine as modern scientific veterinary medicine in all its branches. A groomer who gives a dog a sedative to make it sit still is practising veterinary medicine. Bonbeno names no drug and no dose; that is a decision for your own veterinary surgeon on your own dog.

If a groomer offers to calm your dog

Ask what they mean. A towel, a slower pace and a second pair of hands are handling. A tablet, a drop or an injection is not, whoever supplies it and whatever it is called. A dog that cannot be groomed awake should be assessed by a veterinary surgeon, who can decide whether sedation is appropriate and supervise it. One Lucknow salon prices Aggressive Handling at ₹500 as an add-on, which is at least an honest way to charge for the extra time.

A medicated bath sits on the same boundary and is worth separating from the rest. Priced as a ₹350 add-on in Lucknow and as a ₹1,199 to ₹1,299 standalone service in Gurugram, it is a bath with a prescription shampoo and a timed contact period. The bath is the delivery; the diagnosis, the product and the schedule are veterinary decisions. Paying a salon for a medicated bath without a diagnosis buys an expensive wash. If your dog has a skin problem, our pages on hot spots on dogs and dog skin allergy explain what the vet is looking for.

Who licenses an Indian dog groomer, and what that means for price

Nobody licenses a grooming-only business in India, which is the single largest reason prices for the same job vary by three times, and the one rule that does mention grooming applies only to registered pet shops.

The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Pet Shop) Rules, 2018 require registration, and they do mention grooming. Rule 3 provides that no person shall carry on or continue the business of sale or trade in pet animals, whether retail or wholesale, or establish or operate a pet shop or any other establishment engaged in sale, purchase or exchange of pet animals by whatever name called, without obtaining a certificate of registration in Form II. A later clause adds that if the pet shop owner intends to provide grooming services, the same shall be specifically mentioned in the application for grant of license, and the grooming area shall be physically separated from primary animal enclosures and animal food storage areas.

Read the definition and the limit becomes clear. The Rules define a pet shop as a shop, place or premises where pet animals are sold or housed, kept or exhibited for sale, or where any retail or wholesale business involving the selling or trading of pet animals is carried out, including online platforms. A salon that only grooms does not sell pet animals. A groomer who arrives at your flat with a kit has no premises at all. Neither is a pet shop, so neither is registered, inspected or required to declare anything.

The one case where a register exists

If the grooming happens inside a pet shop, the shop must hold a certificate of registration, and the Rules require the grooming area to be physically separated from the animal enclosures and the food storage. You can ask to see the registration and you can look at where the grooming table stands. Neither question is rude and both are answerable in ten seconds.

There is no published Indian research to fall back on either. A PubMed search on 21 October 2026 for grooming or groomer, combined with dog or canine, and with India or Indian, in the title or abstract, returned zero records; a control query for Labrador Retriever and India run in the same session returned five. No Indian study of grooming prices, grooming injuries or groomer training exists in that database to cite, which is why this page is built from operators' own price lists and dated to the day they were read.

So the price of an Indian groom reflects what the operator decided to charge, not a standard anybody enforces. That cuts both ways. It is why a ₹700 bath and a ₹1,399 bath can both be competent, and why they can both be careless.

How to judge a groomer on safety rather than price

Judge an Indian groomer on handling, hygiene and whether you are allowed to watch, because the things that go wrong in a grooming session are not priced into any package, and the cheapest list is not the dangerous one by default.

One measurable hazard sits in the shampoo bottle. In a study of 117 bottles of non-medicated dog grooming product, 97 of them in use in pet grooming salons and 20 in private homes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was isolated from 14 bottles, 11.97 percent, with a 95 percent confidence interval of 6.97 to 19.3 percent. The one risk factor that reached significance was dilution: diluted products were contaminated far more often than undiluted ones, at an odds ratio of 15.5 with a 95 percent confidence interval of 2.05 to 117.23 and P below 0.01.

That matters because P. aeruginosa is the bacterium most commonly isolated from the skin lesions of dogs with post-grooming furunculosis, a painful deep skin infection that appears within a day or two of a bath. Post-grooming furunculosis is a recognised and described form of canine pyoderma in the veterinary dermatology literature. The authors' own conclusion is that contaminated grooming products may predispose dogs to severe bacterial skin infections of that kind.

The commercial pressure runs the wrong way here. Diluting a bottle of shampoo makes it go further, which lowers the cost of a cheap package. That study is the reason to ask a salon how its shampoo is stored rather than only what it costs.

Eight questions to ask before you book

  1. Ask whether you may stay and watch. Sploot says a pet parent is welcome to stay, and leaves it to the dog. Vetic says its clinics have glass panels so owners can watch the whole session. An operator who will not let you see the table has told you something.
  2. Ask how long the session takes. Published answers run 60 to 120 minutes at one at-home service, 60 minutes for a bath and 120 for a bath plus haircut at one clinic chain, and one to two hours at another at-home service. A full groom quoted at half an hour is not a full groom.
  3. Ask whether shampoo is kept diluted in a refilled bottle, and for how long, because dilution is the one contamination risk the evidence actually measured.
  4. Ask what happens to the dryer while the dog is drying. A dog left under a running dryer with nobody watching is the scenario to rule out, and heat is a real risk in an Indian summer room. Our guide to heat safety for dogs in India covers the signs.
  5. Ask how the dog is restrained, and whether a noose or a loop is used around the neck on a table.
  6. Ask whether vaccination is required. One at-home operator requires pets to be vaccinated and at least eight weeks old before it will groom them. An operator who asks nothing about your dog's vaccination status is not asking the other clients either.
  7. Ask how many groomers attend. One Delhi NCR service sends two groomers to every at-home session and says so on its page. Two hands on a frightened large dog is a safety answer, not an upsell.
  8. Ask for the de-matting decision in advance, in writing or over chat, before the dog is on the table.
The one thing to check after a groom

Run your hands over the whole dog the same evening and again the next morning. A spreading wet or raw patch, a painful spot the dog will not let you touch, or a dog that is suddenly quiet and off its food needs a veterinary appointment the same day rather than a complaint to the salon. A grooming session is also a tick exposure, so check the ears, armpits, groin and toes; our guide to dog ticks in India covers where they attach.

None of this is a reason to avoid professional grooming. It is the reason for choosing a groomer on something other than the headline figure, because on the published Indian lists the price tells you almost nothing about the care, and the cheapest list on this page is not the one with the most to answer for.

Grooming frequency, tipping, and how much your dog actually needs

Grooming frequency decides your annual bill far more than the session price does, and the Indian advice on it varies by a factor of three for exactly the same dog.

Take a double-coated dog, the commonest expensive coat in Indian cities. One national at-home operator says to bathe a Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd or Husky every four to six weeks. One veterinary clinic chain's own frequency table says double-coated dogs need grooming every eight to twelve weeks. One content page selling at-home grooming says double coats need it every four to six weeks, and more in shedding season. Same dog, three answers, a threefold spread.

Put the ₹1,399 bath package against each schedule and the stakes are obvious.

One year of one ₹1,399 bath package, at each frequency the Indian sources advise Sploot, Dog and Pet Grooming at Home…
ScheduleSessions a yearAnnual costWho advises it for a double coat
Every 4 weeks13₹18,187At-home operator and content guide, lower bound
Every 6 weeks9₹12,591At-home operator and content guide, upper bound
Every 8 weeks7₹9,793Clinic chain, lower bound
Every 12 weeks4₹5,596Clinic chain, upper bound

The gap between the top and bottom rows is ₹12,591 a year, for one dog, decided entirely by whose advice you follow. Notice also who advises what. The operator paid per session advises the shortest interval and the clinic chain, which also sells grooming but makes its money on medicine, advises the longest. That is not proof of anything, and it is a pattern worth seeing before you sign up to a subscription.

Many Indian dogs are sold more grooming than they need

The honest position is that a short single coat needs very little salon work. The same at-home operator that advises four to six weeks for a double coat says a bath every four to eight weeks is enough for a Beagle or an indie, with a wipe down in between. A dog that is brushed at home, walked on surfaces that wear its nails, and bathed when it is actually dirty can go a long way between paid sessions. Our guide to the monthly cost of a dog in India treats grooming as a choice rather than a fixed cost for exactly this reason, and its worked budgets show how much that choice moves the monthly figure.

Where the cost is not optional is a continuously growing coat. A Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, Poodle or Maltese grows hair rather than shedding it, so the haircut is maintenance and skipping it produces the matted coat that costs ₹749 to undo.

Tipping a groomer in India

No Indian tipping norm for groomers exists in print. Of the six operators' pages read on 21 October 2026, exactly one addresses it: Patmypets answers the question "Do I need to tip the Groomer?" with the statement that there is no compulsion. The other five say nothing about tipping at all. In practice the groomer who arrives at your door is usually an employee or a platform worker rather than the owner, a doorstep session runs one to two hours with two people, and a tip of ₹100 to ₹200 on a ₹1,399 session is in line with how Indian households already tip delivery and home-service workers. Treat that as our reading of the practice rather than a published rate, because there is no published rate to quote.

If you board your dog and have it groomed at the end of the stay, the grooming is usually a separate line on the invoice. Our guide to boarding against a pet sitter in India covers that side of the bill.

How to get a quote you can hold the groomer to

To get a quote you can hold a groomer to, send the dog's breed, weight and a photograph of the worst-matted area, and ask for a single all-in figure that names the package, the size band, the tax position and the de-matting charge.

Every operator read for this page quotes over the phone or over chat before the visit, and a Lucknow salon invites pet parents to send the breed over WhatsApp for a package suggestion and a price. That is the moment to settle everything, because once the dog is wet the negotiating position is gone.

  • Name the package, not the service. "A full groom" means four different things across the six lists on this page. "Your Bath and Haircut Package" means one.
  • Give the weight. Size bands are the largest single multiplier, at up to 67 percent on one published ladder, and an operator who prices flat should still be told.
  • Send a photograph of the mats, behind the ears, in the armpits and down the backs of the legs, and ask for the de-matting charge in the same message.
  • Ask whether the figure includes taxes. Only one of the six lists says so on the page.
  • Ask what is excluded. Anti-tick baths are priced separately at ₹1,200 on one menu, and a medicated bath is extra on every list that offers one.
  • Confirm the total before the groomer starts, out loud, with the dog still dry.

Keep the messages. A written quote is the only record either side has, and it is what turns a disputed bill into a short conversation.

What a fair bill looks like

A fair Indian grooming bill matches the quote, or exceeds it only by an item you agreed to in advance after the groomer saw the dog. A bill that grows at the door by a surcharge you were not told about is a reason to use someone else next time, whatever the headline price was.

Common questions

How much does it cost to groom a dog in India?

Grooming a dog in India cost ₹600 to ₹3,000 a session on six operators' own itemised price lists read on 21 October 2026. A bath package runs ₹600 to ₹1,600, a full groom with a haircut ₹1,000 to ₹3,000, and a veterinary clinic chain's haircut plus bath ₹2,199 before its app discount. Your dog's size, coat and the package you choose move the figure more than your city does.

How much does a dog haircut cost in India?

A dog haircut in India cost ₹800 to ₹3,000 on the lists read on 21 October 2026. A standalone full body trim is ₹1,200 on one national at-home menu, a haircut-only package is ₹800 at a Delhi NCR service and ₹1,699 at a veterinary clinic chain, and a Lucknow salon's full groom with a haircut runs ₹1,200 for a puppy up to ₹3,000 for an extra-large dog. The haircut is the single largest price step in any package.

How much should a full dog groom cost?

A full dog groom should cost between ₹1,000 and ₹3,000 in India, judged against the published lists read on 21 October 2026, and the figure should be quoted for your dog's size before the session. Treat anything far below that range as a bath rather than a groom, and ask what it excludes. De-matting, anti-tick baths and medicated baths are charged on top on most Indian menus, so a quote without them named is incomplete.

How much does basic dog grooming cost?

Basic dog grooming, meaning a bath, blow dry, nails, ears and eyes with no haircut, cost ₹700 to ₹1,399 on the two Indian at-home menus read on 21 October 2026. A plain bath and blow dry alone is ₹999 on one national menu, and the individual extras are ₹99 each for ear, eye and teeth cleaning and ₹149 for nails. Buying those five items separately comes to ₹1,445, so the ₹1,399 bundle saves only ₹46.

Can a dog groomer come to my house?

Yes. Doorstep grooming is the dominant channel in Indian cities, and the groomer brings towels, shampoo, clippers and sanitised tools to your flat. One national operator lists ₹1,399 for a bath package and ₹1,999 with a haircut, the same in Delhi and in Indore. A Delhi NCR service sends two groomers and takes one to two hours. You need a space with water access, and you may stay and watch.

Should I tip my dog groomer in India?

No Indian tipping norm for groomers is published. Of six operators' pages read on 21 October 2026, only one addresses it, answering that there is no compulsion to tip. The other five say nothing. A doorstep session typically takes one to two hours and is done by employees rather than owners, so a tip of ₹100 to ₹200 on a ₹1,399 session is consistent with how Indian households tip other home-service workers. That is our reading, not a published rate.

Is a medicated bath grooming or veterinary treatment?

A medicated bath is veterinary treatment delivered during a groom. The shampoo is chosen for a diagnosed skin condition and needs a timed contact period, so the diagnosis, the product and the schedule are veterinary decisions. Indian salons price it as a ₹350 add-on in Lucknow and as a ₹1,199 to ₹1,299 standalone service in Gurugram. Buying one without a diagnosis buys an expensive wash. Ask your own veterinary surgeon first.
