Frankly speaking, travelling with your pet by means of any transportation is the whole caboodle. You can only bring your pet under certain conditions. For instance, if you are the owner of guide dogs or assistance animal then, they can travel for free on all public transport services.

Assistant animals are those who are being trained to help and assist you with your disability. They help and manage for your disability and if your animal does all these so you can easily apply to issue an assistant animal pass. This is because you can only travel with your pet if you are having an assistant animal pass.

For all those owners who don’t have any pet belonging to the below-mentioned category or those who don’t have an assistant animal pass can also be able to travel with their pet on public transport.

For all those owners having small pets can travel with you on trains, trams and buses in a suitable animal container. And to travel via, the train with your small and big pets you need to keep these things in mind

  • You’ll have to clean up any mess that your pet makes.
  • You’ll have to make sure that your pet doesn’t sit on seats, or block aisles and doors.
  • You’ll have to keep your pet under your control at all times.
  • Try to avoid travelling on weekdays between 7 am and 9 am or 4 pm and 6 pm.

Note:-

Only animals in a suitable animal container are allowed on trams and buses.

Dogs can travel with you on trains, as long as they’re on a lead and wearing a muzzle.

Rules to follow while travelling with your guide dog or assistant animal with their pass in V/Line trains and coaches

You must be having a suitable pet container that should follow the enlisted criteria:

  • The container should be no more than 56cm long, 30cm wide and 38cm high.
  • The weigh of the container must be a maximum of 15kg, including your animal.
  • The container must be spacious to allow your animal space to comfortably stand up, lie down and turn around.
  • Only one container is allowed per customer.

Do not bring any dangerous animals on board.
